An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Principal Force Crime Prevention Officer to join the team based at Headquarters in Wakefield. In this role, you will support senior leaders in the development and delivery of crime prevention and problem solving strategies supporting the Departmental Plan and Force priorities.

A significant part of the role will involve you as a source of professional advice on all aspects of crime prevention and problem solving to the organisation in order to enhance operational delivery against the Forces’ strategic objectives. Proactively developing the Force approach to problem solving, reviewing and development of training and practice to improve application across the Force to maintain direction and delivery against demand reduction, community engagement and early intervention strategies.

You will lead and manage the Corporate Services Crime Prevention Team, as well as the Force Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators, driving innovation and change to ensuring the continued development of partnerships across the Force, maximising opportunities to deliver a high quality service to internal and external stakeholders supporting operational policing, communities and contributing to the delivery of Force strategy.

To apply you must have expertise and understanding of a wide range of crime prevention tools, techniques, and their application. Experience of leading project work and project management in a relevant field and awareness of local, regional and national community safety issues and their implications for the Force.

To be considered for this challenging opportunity, you must be able to undertake and pass the relevant training on West Yorkshire Police computerised systems and use computer packages such as Microsoft Office. In addition, you are prepared to work flexible hours to suit the needs of the role, have the ability to travel and work throughout the Force, and represent the Force at a national level in matters relating to crime prevention and business crime where appropriate.

If successful, you will be subject to personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment.
