West Yorkshire Police are looking to recruit a Regional Technical Surveillance Officer, to join the Regional Technical Surveillance Unit based in Wakefield; to service both West Yorkshire and Regional Crime/Odyssey with technical support within the Yorkshire area.

As part of this team, you will provide specialist support and technical assistance with covert and overt surveillance operations, to assist in the detection and prevention of serious crime across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

To be considered for this role, you must hold a relevant degree level qualification, or significant equivalent accredited professional experience within a relevant technical discipline.

Applicants must also be able to evidence their knowledge of electrical and electronic principles, and their ability to use a variety of computerised systems, including Microsoft Office and more specialist bespoke software.

To commence in this post, you will need to be able to work on your own initiative, and work well under pressure in stressful and potentially dangerous circumstances. You will also be required to exercise a high degree of confidentiality.

Regional Technical Surveillance Officers are required to cover 24 hour call out duties for crime in action requests, therefore should you take up this role, you will have to participate in a stand-by rota and must be prepared to work on occasion unsociable hours often at short notice.

You must also be able to carry a considerable amount of heavy equipment over considerable distances, and undertake covert urban and rural deployment of equipment, at all times of day and in any weather conditions.

To be a Regional Technical Surveillance Officer requires a full, current UK/European driving licence, and the ability to work from within a vehicle whilst travelling for extended periods of time. The successful candidate will also be subject to enhanced personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment, and will be required to successfully pass the relevant College of Policing TSU Course.

This post is suitable for job share and will attract a standby allowance. The application process will close at 23.55 hours on 9 October 2018.
