Cyber Crime Intern Placement - Protect

Following on from the successful year of placements for students from local Universities, the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit is able to offer placements for interns for the 2019-2020 gap year.

Placement Dates: 1st September 2019 – 31st August 2020*

The Y&HRCCU is a law enforcement unit based within the regional organised crime unit. Our role is to investigate and prevent serious and organised cyber-crime affecting the Yorkshire and Humber region (West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, and Humberside).
Including:

• Malware
• Significant Denial of Service
• Ransomware demands
• Network Intrusion / Hacking
• Data breaches
• Significant Money enablers linked to cyber-crime


Role:

• Support Prevent/protect team to identify and engage with subjects identified as on the periphery of Cybercrime providing support and diversion from further offending.
• Identify and build partnerships with public, private industry, education and third sector partners to promote the prevent/protect message and identify regional initiatives creating alternative disposals and pathways diverting subjects away from cybercrime.
• Support national and local prevent/protect activity coordinated by national law enforcement agencies.
• Work in partnership with Regional Organised Crime Unit’s and Law Enforcement Agencies to develop prevent/protect strategies based upon evidence from ongoing investigations, establishing “lessons learnt” for sharing across the network.
• Deliver presentations and promote cybercrime related material and messaging encouraging the reporting of cybercrime threats to law enforcement and the promotion and benefits of joining Cisp Network.
• To support the preparation and presentation of prosecution case files and relevant documentation.
• To build effective working relationships with relevant external agencies and academia to ensure crime trend information is communicated and to facilitate prevention messaging.
• Provide a research and development function, horizon scanning for future threats to support the protect and prevent objectives.

Essential requirements:
- Ability and Willingness to travel both throughout the Force and Region
- Currently studying a degree in computing
- Interest and experience with security tools
-Interest and experience with software development
-Knowledge and understanding of command line and Linux fundamentals.


Desirable requirements:
- Experience of partnership working
- An understanding of different types of malware and the nature and impact of cyber attacks

Security Vetting:
In this role you will be vetted to SC (security clearance) standard.

*there is some flexibility around starting dates and this can be discussed further in due course. This is a 12 month placement commencing September 2019.
