Communications Officer
Counter Terrorism Policing – North East (CTP NE)
Permanent
1 full time 37 hours post

West Yorkshire Police are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join a small and unique team, to support the work of Counter Terror policing with the delivery of the Communications Strategy and Business Plan. This will involve supporting operational policing activity and increasing and protecting public, partner and stakeholder confidence through internal and external communications, products and activity.

Working in a fast paced and changing environment you will need keen writing skills, an ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and a sound understanding of the challenges faced.

Eligible candidates will hold a degree or relevant qualification in communications, journalism or public relations or have previous experience in the business area.

Furthermore, you will have a detailed knowledge of legislation relating to media and communications, particularly the rules of sub judice and contempt and have experience of responding to complex communications issues within a demanding police or public sector environment.

In addition, you must be prepared to travel for business purposes both regionally and nationally, work flexibly to suit business needs and take part in a call out rota. You will also be expected to be available outside normal office hours for professional advice and support, including attendance at critical incidents within prescribed time parameters linked to organisational objectives.

Please note that the successful candidate will be subject to enhanced level personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment.

You must be a British citizen and eligible to hold a British passport to work in the CTP NE. For security reasons you should not discuss your application with anyone other than your immediate family.

Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused on the grounds that it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.
