Applications are invited from all substantive Inspectors, plus those officers promoted Inspector under OSPRE who are within their 12 month probation and those temporarily promoted Inspectors under the NPPF. In addition, it is open to those officers on the Sergeant to Inspector promotion select list.

This will be a posting for West Yorkshire Police Officers and a transfer or secondment if from the Regional Forces. Applicants from Regional Forces will require permission from their current Force in order to be eligible to apply, as per their Home Force policy.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a unique Team, supporting the work of Counter Terrorism Policing.

You will manage and lead the Dedicated Source Unit, ensuring that human sources of intelligence are ethically managed in accordance with law and policy and the opportunities for obtaining source information to meet the strategic and tactical intelligence requirement of the Department, are maximised.

You will ensure the performance, structure and functions of the DSU accord with National models of minimum standards for Source Management, security, legislation and local policy. In addition, you will control, supervise and direct resources across the North East Region, in the proactive identification, recruitment and management of Covert Human Intelligence Sources, ensuring that all administrative functions and record keeping relating to RIPA Management are efficient, transparent and maintained to a high standard.

To be successful in this role, you will the ability to pass nationally accredited partnership Controller courses, plus have an understanding of the NPCC Codes of Practice for the use of CHIS, together with an understanding of RIPA, ECHR, Data Protection legislation and guidance regarding the Recording and Dissemination of Intelligence Material.

You will be a strong leader, capable of leading and managing a diverse regional team in a complex and high-risk area of policing, protecting the wellbeing of staff while also managing risk and increasing performance.

You will be required to hold a full and current UK/European driving licence with access to your own vehicle and prepared to use it for business purposes. In addition, you must be prepared to work flexible hours to meet operational needs, including participating in 24 hour call out plus have a willingness and ability to travel regionally and nationally.
