Expressions of Interest are invited from Substantive Constables who have completed their 2-year probationary period by the closing date of this advert.

An opening has arisen for a Community Engagement Officer to join Local Policing based at HQ in Wakefield / Agile. Note that there is a staff role profile however it has been agreed that a Police Officer will be recruited to fill this vacancy.

In this role, you will support the Principal Community Engagement Officer with the implementation and co-ordination of the Force Community Engagement Strategy. You will develop new and innovative ways to proactively engage with hard to reach and seldom heard communities in line with social distancing guidelines and restrictions.

Ideal candidates will have the ability to maximise the use of online social media channels and platforms.

The work you do will contribute to improving the design and delivery of our policing services to our diverse communities of West Yorkshire.

A significant part of the role will involve you liaising directly with the community and voluntary sector as well as statutory and faith organisations, providing advice and support as required.

Due to the nature of the work, it is essential you are flexible to fit in with the needs of the communities and evening and weekend work may be required.

It is essential that applicants have the ability to use a range of computerised systems and packages such as Microsoft Office. Ideally, you will also have a good standard of literacy and numeracy skills, and should be able to work unsupervised and prioritise workloads using your own initiative, due to the varied nature of the role.

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must have proven experience in community engagement and will ideally be able to demonstrate clear rationale in your approach to working with communities in line with the Forces key purposes to Reduce Crime, Protect Vulnerable people and Reassure the Public.

Your application should have the support of your line manager and confirmation of this support, both in terms of your abstraction from your usual duties and in terms of personal support.
