Expressions of Interest are invited from all substantive Sergeants, plus those officers promoted to Sergeants under OSPRE who are within their 12 month probation and those temporarily promoted Sergeants under the NPPF. In addition it is open to those officers on the Sergeant promotion select list.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Local Policing Operations Team, based at Force Headquarters in Wakefield.

We are seeking a Sergeant with a breadth of operational policing experience to fulfil this challenging but rewarding role.

The successful candidate will be key to driving performance and delivering against force priorities across a range of key local and national workstreams, including stop and search, victim satisfaction, scrutiny and victim support. With first line management responsibility for the Force HMICFRS Liaison Officer, they will also oversee and support the successful delivery of HMICFRS related business, both on a departmental and wider force level.

Responsibilities will include:

• Managing allocated force policies to ensure they are developed, implemented, and maintained as necessary.
• Preparing of quality reports and briefing papers for the Chief Officer Team.
• Leading or assisting with reviews of performance, systems and processes, including quantitative and qualitative checking.
• Presenting to Senior Leadership and Chief Officer Teams at Reassurance Boards, Local Accountability Meetings (LAMs), and other force-level meetings.
• Representing West Yorkshire Police within a partnership working environment at a local and national level.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and able to work on their own initiative. They must have the ability to plan and manage their time effectively, whilst managing and supporting team members.

This role requires the successful candidate to represent the department and wider force at conferences and meetings, both within the force area as well as nationally. Applicants must therefore be willing and able to travel within and outside of the force area, where applicable.
