The Digital Forensic Unit has a number of offices across the district, these are Calder Park (Wakefield), Normanton Police Station, Huddersfield Police Station, Elland Road Police Station (Leeds), Halifax Police Station and Trafalgar House Police Station (Bradford). At the time of advertising there are vacancies at Calder Park, Leeds and Huddersfield however due to on going internal moves and promotions a vacancy may become available at any of our offices.

Opportunities at Calder Park (Wakefield) will be on both Monday to Friday working pattern and also a weekend working shift pattern which attracts a 19% shift enhancement, as applicable.

To support the investigation of serious crime, West Yorkshire Police is looking to appoint a Digital Forensic Technician for its Digital Forensics Unit. This is an ideal role for those who wish to be a technician, or as a first position for someone who has no previous experience of working in digital forensics but would like to start a career in this area.

Providing administrative and technical support to the team, you will be responsible for acquiring data from many types of digital device, including mobile phones. You will form part of the triage process for all levels of digital investigations. Reporting to a Senior Digital Forensic Investigator, you will also support the investigation of serious crime and be involved in all types of investigations.

The ideal candidate will come with intermediate knowledge and expertise of common operating systems and applications. Candidates must also have an aptitude for problem solving in a methodical and orderly manner.

No previous Digital Forensic experience is required. You will be required to hold a relevant professional qualification in a computer-based subject or be able to demonstrate significant experience and expertise in a technical environment. A working understanding of the forensic examination of digital devices is desirable.

As a full current UK/European driving licence holder, you must have the willingness and ability to travel for business purposes and be prepared to work flexibly to suit the requirements of the department.

Within this role, physical and emotional resilience is required to deal with abusive and offensive imagery depicting extreme violence, obscenity and depravity; including graphic images of child abuse. The jobholder must therefore be willing to undergo regular psychological assessment.
