We are looking to recruit a full-time Technical Deployment Specialist to join the newly formed Technical Development Unit at the YH ROCU
An exciting, rare and challenging opportunity has arisen for a full time Police staff position to join the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU), within the Technical Development Unit. This is for 3 posts that are in addition to an already growing and developing team working at the forefront of ground-breaking capabilities to tackle serious and organised crime.
The YHROCU target Serious and Organised Crime within the four forces that comprise the Yorkshire and Humber Region. The successful applicant will form part of a skilled team, who work flexible hours to deliver Targeted Equipment Interference (TEI) and technical deployment capabilities. The role will be a full-time dedicated role based near Wakefield. Travel around the Region and the UK may be required as dictated by operational demands. Where possible we will also consider flexible working requests.
You will have the opportunity to work closely with the other specialist teams across the ROCU, alongside collaboration with NCA and the other ROCU & Police Forces in England and Wales.
A successful candidate should have a deep understanding of both information security and technology. They should understand basic concepts including computer networking, web technologies, and cloud services. They will also have knowledge of common network defence tools and techniques, and their associated weaknesses. They will have a passion for computers, hacking, security and most importantly, solving problems

Responsibilities
• Working closely with Commissioning Investigators of police investigations providing access to advanced digital collection capabilities.
• Develop collaborative working relationships with the national TEI Community
• Design, implementation, deployment and maintenance of technical assets, infrastructure and covert methodologies in support of Covert Policing.
• Working co-operatively with team members and colleagues, contributing positively and constructively to achieve Local TEI Team aims and objectives.
• Support the ROCU Regional Technical Development Unit effectively by working both with the team as directed by the Local TEI Team Supervisor and also be capable of working with limited supervision, planning and prioritising own workload.
Applicants should not be dissuaded by a preconception of the skills required for the post, as in-role training can be provided for many areas.

Essential
Knowledge of emerging technology trends and how they impact on data collection capability with an experience in three of the following areas:
• Web technologies and cloud environments
• System (Win, Linux, OSx) Administration
• Network Administration
• Database administration
• Digital forensics
• Network forensics (packet and traffic analysis)
• Firmware / driver development
• RF technologies (e.g. Wi-Fi, BLE)
• Code review
• Distributed application development
• Work may include the requirement to work long hours or unsocial hours when supporting an operation.
• Interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written to be an effective member of a team and document their product.
• The ability to work as part of a small team, but solely where required.

Desirable
Understanding of how the multiple methods of TEI techniques can be applied consistently, structured cohesively together, in line with national agreed operating models.
An interest in technology that would demonstrate knowledge or interest in the following:
• Involvement in CTF events and similar platforms
• OSINT
• Anonymising technologies and techniques
• Digital and/or analogue electronics, including microcontrollers
• Virtualisation technologies
• Systems Engineering
• Practical Red/Blue teaming concepts
• Experience or interest in researching and developing technology-based solutions.
Qualified to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
