North East Region Prison Intelligence Unit (NERPIU)

Based in a Prison within the North East, (Cleveland, Durham and Northumbria)

Applications are invited from substantive Police Constables who have successfully completed their 2 year probationary period.

This will be a posting for West Yorkshire Police Officers and a regional transfer or secondment opportunity for Officers from the Regional Forces. Applicants from Regional Forces will require permission from their current Force in order to be eligible to apply for this opportunity, as per their Home Force policy.

We are advertising for a role covering Durham area Prisons however, the role will involve cover at all prison within the North East region.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a unique team, supporting the work of Counter Terrorism Policing.

In this role you will provide an interface between the CTP NE, and HMPPS across the North East Region Prisons establishments for the purpose of developing intelligence in support of Counter Terrorism.
This will involve ensuring a partnership approach to the management, disruption and investigation of high risk offenders to minimise the threat and risk posed in the prison estate. You will be required to work inside any prison within the Northeast Region, including direct contact with inmates.

Eligible candidates will have experience of working in a multi-agency environment and be computer literate with proven experience of researching and processing information. In addition, they must be able to work for prolonged periods without direct supervision.

You will have a basic knowledge of the prison system and national policies relating thereto. You will also have the ability to successfully undertake appropriate training including the following:

• Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) accreditation process
• Operational Partnerships Team Course (OPT)
• Working in Prison Course

You must be prepared to work flexible hours to suit the CTP requirements with a full, current UK/European driving licence and be prepared to attend meetings and assist operationally throughout the 7 North East Regional Forces and nationally, when required.
