The West Yorkshire Police’s Digital Forensic Unit is recruiting a number of Digital Forensic Technical Officers to be based at the DFU Hub & Spokes in the West Yorkshire districts. The role is primarily based upon supporting the ISO accreditation needs, providing quality assurance and compliance support to an Operational Department. The Technical Officer role is the gateway role to quality standards in a Digital Forensic Lab/Setting.

You will join an exciting team that leads by example and behaves in line with the Police Code of Ethics, ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly followed, understood and considered by managers, officers and staff. You will help influence and reinforce their decision making, actions and assist and guide them with all the Digital Forensic Unit processes.

You will be working under the direction of the Technical Manager, and Senior Technical Officers, completing relevant tasks relating to accreditation in ISO17025, ISO17020 and Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice, ensuring all equipment and staff are compliant with the unit and accreditation requirements.

The aim is to produce and continuously develop standard operating procedures for the unit ensuring that all processes maximise evidence yield, assisting the Criminal Justice System and achieving the most effective results/outcomes.

There is a schedule of competency testing and dip sampling of staff casework against the Quality Manual ensuring that staff are compliant with the unit processes, delivering the best evidence in prosecutions.

This is an exciting and challenging role, which comprises of a variety of tasks assisting its ever-expanding force and accreditation needs.

Examples of the day to day tasks for the role includes:
- Evaluating and validating new and existing hardware and software
- Creating standard operating procedures
- Investigating non-conforming results
- Maintain a library of relevant documents to guide and inform staff
- Review unit equipment, checking and testing updates
- Provide advice and guidance to staff around ISO17025, ISO17020 and the Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Practice
- Complete projects surrounding researching new software/hardware which would assist the Digital Forensic unit
- Carry out dip sampling and peer review of casework
- Undertake other duties as required up to a level consistent with the nature, responsibilities, and grading of the post.

This role is suitable for those with a degree in Digital Forensics, equivalent or similar, as well as those already working in quality standards, with a technical background who would like a change in direction. There will be an expectation of working from the DFU Hub, Calder Park, Wakefield in the first instance for initial training.
