West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Mark Burns-Williamson, is seeking to appoint an Information Governance Officer to work with him to continue to make a real difference to the lives of people across communities in West Yorkshire.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), headed by the PCC, is responsible for working with West Yorkshire Police and partners to achieve the shared vision of keeping West Yorkshire safe and feeling safe. We do that by delivering on the priorities contained in the Police and Crime Plan.

The PCC also holds the Chief Constable to account and brings partners together to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, protect the most vulnerable, divert people away from the criminal justice system and provide victims and witnesses with much needed support. You will play a crucial part in delivering on our Police and Crime Plan.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter with excellent knowledge and experience of the GDPR, the Freedom of Information Act and associated disclosure legislation to support the work of the OPCC.

The successful applicant will work with colleagues and partner organisations across West Yorkshire to implement compliant information sharing practices, provide support and advice to colleagues on a range of data protection matters and develop and support effective information management policies and processes. Working with West Yorkshire Police and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority you will support the effective transfer of OPCC information to the Combined Authority in readiness for the introduction of an elected Mayor as part of the planned devolution in West Yorkshire in May 2021.

Managing information in the OPCC, you will ensure appropriate retention and disposal and effective responses to requests for disclosure within statutory timeframes; assessing harm, preparing public interest tests, facilitating reviews of disclosure and preparing information for submission to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Working across our multi-dimensional team and with partners, good communication and stakeholder management skills are essential.

You will be educated to degree level or have proven recent relevant experience and be prepared to work flexibly to suit the requirements of the OPCC with the ability and willingness to travel for business purposes.

The successful candidate will be subject to personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment.

All employees of the OPCC are politically restricted and may not participate in any formal political activity.

OPCC colleagues are usually based in Wakefield City Centre but colleagues are all currently working from home following government guidelines due to the COVID19 pandemic.

Interviews will be held online on Monday 1 February 2021. Additional dates may be added where required.

This post is suitable for job share. The application process will close on 22nd January 2021 at 23:55 hours.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and West Yorkshire Police are committed to improving the diversity of its workforce to better reflect the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all minority groups and individuals who identify with one or more of the protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010.

Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last three years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused on the grounds that it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.
