Forcewide
Police Constable – Graduate Entry Scheme

Starting Salary: £24,176 per annum

Few jobs can be more rewarding than that of a Police Officer, and as such, you will be helping fight crime and protecting the public, making our communities safe and feeling safer.

In partnership with Leeds Trinity University, West Yorkshire Police offer a 2-year Graduate Entry Scheme, which is nationally known as the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP). You will be appointed as a Police Constable with West Yorkshire Police from day one and commence the graduate programme, which combines professional practice learning in the workplace with the academic knowledge required to meet modern day policing challenges.

In the second year of the programme you will have the opportunity to work and study in one of the core policing specialisms – Response Policing, Community Policing or Conducting Investigations to become a Detective Constable.

Upon successful completion of the programme you will be awarded a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice and be a fully operational Police Officer with West Yorkshire Police in your specialist area of policing.

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to:
• have an Honours degree in any subject (or overseas equivalent) or a Master’s Degree
• Meet the eligibility criteria (follow link: https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/jobs-volunteer/police-officers/police-officers/selection-process).

We are looking for the very best people – good all-round communicators with a calm and confident personality; problem solvers, team players and people who easily build relationships, respect other people and appreciate views from the 2.2 million residents across our diverse communities in West Yorkshire.

If this sounds like you, we welcome your application.

It is West Yorkshire Police’s goal to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace and we are committed to building a team that reflects a wide variety of skills, perspectives and backgrounds. We are an equal opportunities employer, hiring solely on merit and business need. We encourage applications regardless of sex, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, pregnancy, parenthood and disability. If you require any reasonable adjustment at any stage of the recruitment process with us, please make us aware.

If you do not have a degree you may wish to consider the non-degree holder entry route, which is nationally known as the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA). This is a 3-year programme which leads to you achieving a BA honours degree in Professional Policing Practice. For further information about the two entry routes visit https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/jobs-volunteer/police-officers/police-officers/peqf-frequently-asked-questions.

Please be aware that:

• West Yorkshire Police are unable to support applicants switching between the two different entry routes, once an appointment has been made.
• Adequate vetting checks to the appropriate standard on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last three years may not be possible; meaning your application on this occasion may be refused.

Your applications for the Police Constable Graduate Entry Scheme will most likely be considered for programmes commencing in October 2020.

Applications should be submitted by 23:55 on Monday 20th January 2020.

This opportunity is closed to applications.
