West Yorkshire Police, the lead Force for the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Scientific Support Services (RSSS), based at Calder Park, Wakefield, is looking to recruit a Regional Sample Reception Officer (Police & Criminal Evidence (PACE) Act).

The role will provide a comprehensive administrative support function in relation to forensic samples. This will involve interrogating and updating information on a range of computerised systems, including the Police National Computer (PNC), Socrates and Microsoft Office applications.

You will be responsible for recording DNA sample submissions and ensuring the integrity of the data in accordance with legislation under the Protection of Freedoms Act (PoFA) as well as the PACE Act. In addition, you will process and package the DNA samples for onward transmission to the Forensic Service Provider.

The ability to use computer databases is essential, as is the ability to accurately record information. Also required; good literacy skills, the ability to prioritise workload, and a willingness to work flexibly to ensure efficient DNA processing. A knowledge of relevant PACE and DNA legislation would be an advantage.

Please note that due to the nature of the role, the appointed candidate will be required to provide biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA) for inclusion on the respective Police elimination databases. This is for routine speculative searching purposes.
