West Yorkshire Police are looking to recruit two Digital Forensic Technical Officers to work in the Digital Forensic Unit based at Calder Park in Wakefield. The unit is currently undergoing a period of expansion and investment, and requires staff to support the ever changing demand and scope of the ISO 17025 and Forensic Science Regulator accreditation. The unit is seeking ISO 17020 accreditation for the triage of digital devices carried out at scene and the expansion to accredit district mobile phone and CCTV examination labs across the Force.

The Digital Forensic Technical Officer will work under the direction of the Technical Manager completing relevant tasks with regard to the units accreditation and compliance with the Forensic Science Regulator codes of practise, ensuring all equipment and staff are compliant with the unit requirements. You will be responsible for the testing and validation of Digital Forensic hardware and software, the implementation of new methods, investigating faults and ensuring the standard operating procedures are up to date.

You will complete a training schedule for the range of methods carried out in the lab and undergo competency testing to become proficient in all areas of examining digital devices. You will use this knowledge to carry out internal audits on staff, ensuring they are compliant with the documented procedures in the Quality Manual and delivering the best evidence for prosecution.

To be considered for this role you must hold a degree in Computer Forensics or have relevant experience and expertise to be able to fulfil the essential criteria for this role. You must have a good knowledge of common operating systems and applications, such as Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS and Android.

You will be organised and have a disciplined approach to work with an ability to plan and manage your own workload and have the ability to produce detailed and accurate written reports.

The successful candidate will have the ability to complete the ISO 17025/17020 internal auditor’s course and be prepared to work flexible hours to suit the requirements of the department, including working outside of normal working hours in some circumstance.

In addition you will have a full current UK/European driving licence and have the ability and willingness to travel around Force area for business purposes and be prepared to successfully undertake management vetting procedures including financial checks.

The successful candidate may also be required to complete external Digital Forensic / UKAS training courses, as well as complete in house training requirements.
