THE FOLLOWING POST HAS BEEN ADVERTISED EXTERNALLY

NPAS IT Support Technicians
National Police Air Service (NPAS)
Digital Infrastructure
2 Years Fixed Term Contract

West Yorkshire Police would like to recruit two IT Support Technicians to support the National Police Air Service across England and Wales.

This exciting new role will support the implementation of a large investment programme in technology across NPAS, commencing with the delivery of a new national IT network and associated infrastructure connecting all NPAS sites to the secure West Yorkshire Police network.

The scope of your responsibilities will include the implementation, maintenance and support of the national NPAS network and IT infrastructure to ensure compliance with nationally agreed security protocols and in accordance with West Yorkshire Police working practices.

This will include the delivery of practical technical expertise; the configuration and installation of hardware and software, trouble-shooting and problem-solving, and continuous development of the technology across NPAS.

You will also be responsible for delivering effective IT to support business and operational requirements nationally and to ensure the operational capability of NPAS is maintained, as well as the continuous development of IT across NPAS both now and in the future as new technologies become available, in order to embed technology and maximise business benefits for the organisation.

As a NPAS IT Support Technician, you will be expected to provide onsite IT support to approximately 350 members of NPAS staff across England and Wales, whilst working to the documented procedures of West Yorkshire Police and the Data Protection and Information Security principles and legislation. You will also regularly liaise with internal departments, other police forces across England and Wales, and with new and existing external suppliers.

This role would therefore suit candidates with extensive technical knowledge and proven experience of IT networking in areas such as LAN and WAN network technology, Cisco routers and switches, Cisco ASA firewalls, mobile data networks, traditional and Voice Over IP telephony, wireless LAN controllers and Access Points, access control lists and firewall rule bases.

Technical knowledge to support office IT equipment (e.g. desktops, laptops, printers) and any associated peripherals, bespoke applications and software, Network Attached Storage and Windows Servers in an effective and logical manner is also essential.

Eligible candidates will also hold a related NVQ Level 3 qualification or above, or proven relevant and practical skills and experience in IT networking and technical infrastructure. You will also be able to work independently with a high-level of personal responsibility and minimal supervision.

If successful, you will become part of the West Yorkshire Digital Policing department based in Bradford, but will be responsible for a geographical region which will consist of (approximately) 50% of NPAS bases across England and Wales; with the possibility of providing full geographical coverage as and when dictated by the business.

To be considered eligible for this post you must therefore hold a full UK Driving Licence and be willing and able to undertake and pass a standard Police driving test (a vehicle will be provided for business use). You must also be able to travel nationally on a daily basis, including overnight stays for extended periods, and to work outside of normal business hours as required.

The successful candidates will be subject to personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment.

These posts are suitable for job share. The application process will close at 23:55 hours on 14 December 2018.

Shortlisting will commence from 17 December 2018. Interviews will take place early January 2019.
