Designing Out Crime Officer

One full time permanent post (37 hours per week).

A unique Police Staff opportunity has arisen for the role of Designing Out Crime Officer within the Bradford District.

With the overall aim of minimising crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour, the role will provide specialist advice and guidance regarding the built environment at every stage of architectural design - from pre-planning to the full development control process.

Leading by example, and behaving in line with the code of ethics, the successful candidate will liaise with architects, designers and developers in promoting an awareness of the Designing Out Crime service and NPCC approved crime prevention initiatives, including Secured by Design. The role will also build awareness of the principles of crime prevention through design and adoption of recommended standards and specifications.

Excellent communication skills are required for engaging with local authority planning departments to influence their prioritisation of reducing crime and the fear of crime. In addition, the candidate will ideally have experience of participating in problem solving with internal and external partners.

Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused on the grounds that it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.
