The role of PCSO may be for you.

As a PCSO you will be the first point of contact for the communities, where no two days are the same. You will be attending both emergency and non-emergency incidents, and you will literally be making a difference to - and in some instances helping to save peoples’ lives. You will be making a difference every day and as a result it is a job that is extremely rewarding.

West Yorkshire Police is looking to recruit PCSO’S who are providing a visible and reassuring presence and building relationships between the community and the Police.

PCSO work can vary from building relationships with the communities, collating and developing intelligence, guarding the scene of a crime, issuing fixed penalty notices to detaining someone until a police officer arrives and providing support to other departments and Police Officers.

PCSO’S are a vital part of the wider Police family.

Conditions of service
• You must be aged 17 or over at the point of application and must be 18 by the time you are appointed.
• You must pass the police security vetting clearances. Honesty is of the highest importance. If you have a criminal record, this does not mean you will not be considered. This depends on the nature of your conviction and circumstances will be considered on an individual basis.
• Need to be able to engage with members of the public in a diplomatic, confident, supportive and build relationships
• Respect for the differences that make communities and people unique, and have an open mind
• Integrity to hold this position of trust, and care for your communities
• Gather intelligence
• Make people feel safe at large public gatherings, such as sport events such as public demonstrations.

The recruitment process:
There are three steps that you need to complete successfully to become a PCSO. Once you submit your application it will be reviewed, and if it passes an initial shortlisting exercise, you will be invited to complete an online assessment comprising of reading comprehension & calculation
If you’re successful at this stage, you’ll be invited to a face to face interview.
If you are successful at interview, then you will be required to undertake medical and vetting checks. Please note: any job offer will be subject to satisfactory references, attendance, and vetting checks
