The department consistently achieves lengthy custodial sentences for perpetrators of child abuse. In Kirklees alone we have reached over 200 years of custodial sentences in the last year. The work is so varied, and every day can be a different challenge. We do the work for the victims and to protect future victims from suspects that harm children. I have never been bored despite my length of time in the department and look forward to coming into work every day.”

Safeguarding is so much more than domestic violence; it is providing a voice for vulnerable adults and children. It’s having the ability to put a stop to years of terror, unnecessary suffering and being part of an effective support network for victims from all walks of life.
Every day brings with it new challenges which will advance your skill set enabling you to conduct successful prosecutions against perpetrators. Safeguarding is without a doubt the most rewarding department that you will ever have the opportunity to work in and make the most difference.”

Domestic Abuse Investigation Teams (DAIT)
The successful candidate will be required to undertake serious and complex investigations in relation to domestic abuse offences in the following areas:
• Section 18 assaults
• Sexual offences
• Public Order offences
• Honour-based violence
• Domestic servitude
In addition, you will be able to:
• Work effectively with partner agencies
• Provide district officers with guidance and advice around adult safeguarding issues

DS Rebekah Tester says “I have worked in Leeds DAT since transferring to the Force in 2020 and I have been hugely impressed with the work that the department does and the results that have been achieved. We investigate a wide range of offences. In my team alone we have had a number of charges and convictions for kidnapping, arson and GBH. Many of the domestic abusers, that have been processed by my team, have received significant custodial sentences. The work DAIT carry out around evidence led prosecutions has successfully safeguarded many vulnerable victims and their families. I am hugely proud of my team, the work they do and the results they achieve.

The intention is that all investigation teams are working towards implementing agile working over the next 2 years.
