Are you a skilled and experienced communications specialist capable of using a wide range of internal and external multi-media channels to engage and communicate on behalf of West Yorkshire Police?

Can you prioritise, make decisions and offer sound advice in a fast paced, fast moving and often pressurised environment where no two days are the same, managing your own daily schedule and dealing sensitively, professionally and appropriately with people of all ranks and from all backgrounds?

West Yorkshire Police has a rare vacancy for an experienced Communications Officer to join its Corporate Communications team., for a fixed term period of six months.

Ideal candidates will require a fully flexible approach and will need the ability to juggle a large workload and be a clear concise communicator, with a professional “can do” attitude and well-developed interpersonal skills.

Your primary responsibility will be the delivery of new internal campaigns and messaging, which relate to the Force’s response to the Police Uplift Programme and the Positive Action initiatives, which are used to improve representation across the Force. You will be able to develop media strategies and present them through a wide range of written, audio, digital and visual communications.

To be considered for this role you will have the ability and willingness to travel for business purposes and work flexibly in order to support the work of the Corporate Services Department. You will be prepared to work flexible hours as demand dictates.

You must be available outside normal office hours for professional advice and support, within prescribed time parameters linked to organisational objectives.

The successful candidate will have a degree or relevant qualification in one of the following communications fields: journalism, Public Relations, digital communications, and will have a detailed knowledge of legislation relating to media and communications, particularly the rules of sub-judice and contempt.

You will have a sound working knowledge of and the ability to use a wide range of relevant computerised packages, including Microsoft Office.
