An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Scientific Support Services (RSSS) as Crime Scene Investigators, based at Sheffield or Doncaster. We are looking for highly driven and motivated candidates to join us as CSIs where you will work as part of a highly professional regional team examining volume crime scenes as well as more serious and major incidents under guidance.

RSSS provides specialist forensic support across the four police forces of Yorkshire & Humber. Although centrally managed, Crime Scene Investigation staff are locally based within communities. Deployed via our dedicated regional forensic control room you may be called upon to attend crime scenes anywhere across the region, providing you with variety and insight, working in other geographical areas.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are wishing to begin a career within a field which continues to develop and offer exciting and new areas of innovation. We are seeking candidates who have a naturally inquisitive mindset and are capable of displaying a high level of problem solving. You will need to be self-confident, capable of learning quickly, have excellent communication skills and work as part of a close team. As a CSI often working alone and during the hours of darkness you will need to be someone who is resilient and perceptive with a discerning character. You will need to hold a full UK driving license.

Training
Crime Scene Investigators are trained to exceptionally high standards, working to strict regulations and procedures. The successful candidates will be provided with all the necessary high quality training from our own dedicated CSI Training Team delivered by CSI trainers who are all independently assessed. You will receive a structured period of mentoring with qualified, experienced CSI’s ensuring that as a CSI you are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge prior to working independently attending all types of crime scenes (predominantly volume crime) recovering forensic evidence in support of criminal investigations.

Remuneration and work pattern
You will be expected to work in a 7 day rotating shift pattern between the hours of 0700x2300, working two weekends in every three, with some midweek days off. You will be paid monthly which includes an additional 14% shift allowance plus 13.87% weekend working allowance, enhancing overall pay plus overtime payments. You will be entitled to a generous annual leave allowance of 25 days which increases with service and you will be automatically enrolled into a local government pension scheme. Most locations include free and secure on-site parking.

Progression

Individuals will normally be appointed to the bottom scale point, of the appropriate grade, within the Career Progression Scheme based on the role entry requirements.  However, appointment can be made to a higher scale point if qualifications, skills and experience are commensurate with a higher point, this is subject to appropriate approval.

Future promotion opportunities to Senior CSI level often become available which attracts overall pay between £32,000 and £39,000, and equip you to carry out major crime scene examinations.
