Casework Officer
Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC)
Wakefield
37 hours per week
Permanent

West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Mark Burns-Williamson, is seeking to appoint a Casework Officer to work with him to continue to make a real difference to the lives of people across communities in West Yorkshire.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), headed by the PCC, is responsible for working with West Yorkshire Police and partners to achieve the shared vision of keeping West Yorkshire safe and feeling safe. We do that by delivering on the priorities contained in the Police and Crime Plan.

Based in Wakefield, we serve approximately 2.3 million people living across the five West Yorkshire metropolitan districts of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. The physical area, of some 2,000 square kilometres or 780 square miles, is very varied combining busy cities and towns with quiet villages and picturesque rural locations. Our communities are equally varied and represent a diverse range of ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds.

The PCC also holds the Chief Constable to account and brings partners together to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, protect the most vulnerable, divert people away from the criminal justice system and provide victims and witnesses with much needed support. You will play a crucial part in delivering on our Police and Crime Plan.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter with experience of providing excellent customer service delivery to provide a customer focused interface between the directly elected Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and members of the public and their representatives. You will handle large volumes of casework containing highly confidential and sensitive information in line with the general data protection regulations and provide timely and appropriate responses.

With excellent communications skills, including the ability to handle sensitive matters with senior leaders, you will support the Casework and Reviews Manager to undertake reviews of complaints in line with the Policing and Crime Act 2017, to assess the handling of complaints by West Yorkshire Police (WYP).

The successful candidate will have the ability to gather, analyse, interpret and report information working to tight deadlines in a pressured environment to ensure the PCC’s statutory administrative responsibilities for Misconduct Hearings and Police Appeals Tribunals are met, fulfilling the effective and efficient implementation of processes and legislative requirements.

Our multi-dimensional team are currently working collaboratively with West Yorkshire Police and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to support the effective proposed transfer of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to the Combined Authority in readiness for the introduction of an elected Mayor as part of the planned devolution for West Yorkshire currently proposed to take place in May 2021.

Together we can make a real difference.
