West Yorkshire Police, as the lead Force for the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Scientific Support Services, is looking to recruit a number of Senior Crime Scene Investigators. We currently have 5 vacancies at Brigg, in Humberside and Sheffield, in South Yorkshire.

We will also be creating a succession list for any future vacancies that arise within the next 6 months for any of the locations based within West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside areas.

In this role, you will provide a comprehensive, efficient and effective crime scene examination service to police investigations by attending crime scenes and other incidents of any type.

Eligible candidates will hold a Science based degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant operational environment and have demonstrated competence and performance in attending and examining crime scenes as defined by the CSI National Occupational Standards.

In order to be considered for these roles, you must demonstrate good communication skills and an aptitude for working in a diverse community. Furthermore, you will show an understanding of Health and Safety issues and legislation relevant to volume crime scene examination and attendance. It is also essential that you have the ability to use computer packages including casework management systems, crime systems, Excel and Word.

We are looking for candidates with the knowledge of the practical techniques used to examine serious and major crime scenes, as well as a sound understanding of the investigative response to such incidents. It is also essential that you are able to deal with the effects of crime, this can range from dealing appropriately with distressed victims, through to the impact on individuals of scenes of extreme violence.

In addition, you must hold a full current UK/European driving license and will have a flexible approach to working cross-border to ensure a full regional crime scene investigation service. You will also be required to complete a recognised manual handling course.

Senior Crime Scene Investigators are required to work a designated shift pattern covering 24 hours, 7 days per week which will attract weekend enhancement.

Depending upon location this post will attract 14% shift allowance and a requirement to operate on-call or will attract a 20% shift allowance with a requirement to cover night working.

As this is a Career Progression Scheme candidates who possess the requisite experience and knowledge of Level SO1 Role Profile (£27,795 - £29,601 salary) may be considered eligible to start further along the progression scheme.

Due to the nature of the role, you must provide Biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA) for inclusion on the respective Police Elimination Databases for routine speculative searching purpose.
