West Yorkshire Police is looking to recruit a full-time Coroner’s Officer to join the team to deliver an effective and efficient Coronial service. You will provide an essential liaison between HM Coroner, relatives of the deceased and other agencies involved in dealing with sudden, violent or unnatural deaths.

We’re looking for someone with excellent communication and listening skills who has a sensitive and compassionate approach to deal with bereaved people. It is essential that you have experience of working successfully in an environment requiring sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.

You will have the ability to liaise with medical and legal professionals, police and witnesses. You will also need good investigative and problem-solving skills and an inquiring mind to support the ongoing inquest work. You will need to be able to present evidence to the Coroner in court and be committed to partnership working.

It’s also important that you’re good with people, great in a team and naturally resilient. Approachable, understanding and a problem solver, you’ll give accurate information and diffuse difficult situations. You will also need an understanding and appreciation of religious and cultural requirements following death.

You will need a full current UK/European Driving License, have access to a motor vehicle and be prepared to use it for business purposes and be prepared to work flexible hours to suit the needs of the unit, including being part of an on-call rota.
