Starting Salary: £20,880 per annum

Earn while you learn with West Yorkshire Police & Leeds Trinity University.

Few jobs can be more rewarding than that of a Police Officer. From day one, you’ll be helping fight crime and protecting the public, making our communities safer and feeling safer.

West Yorkshire Police are offering a 3-year apprenticeship in partnership with Leeds Trinity University. The apprenticeship will combine the opportunity to work and learn the job of a front line police officer whilst gaining a BA (Hons) Degree in Professional Policing Practice. If successful, you will become a substantive Police Officer with West Yorkshire Police.

To be considered for this apprenticeship you will need to:

• Have pass grades in both English Language and Mathematics at Level 2/GCSE (A*-C / 9-4) or equivalent.

and

• Have a Level 3 qualification (within the meaning of Section 3 of the Education and Skills Act 2008) or equivalent; ideally with a minimum of 104 UCAS points (typically 2 or 3 A-levels depending on grades). If your Level 3 qualification does not meet the minimum UCAS points, completion of a 1000-word essay would need to be undertaken as part of the selection process, for consideration of suitability, by Leeds Trinity University.
You can check your qualification UCAS points using this link: https://www.ucas.com/ucas/tariff-calculator
If you do not hold a Level 3 qualification but can demonstrate having the qualifications and/or experience as detailed in Police Regulations 2003, Regulation 10, Annex BA (i.e. you are currently working as a PCSO) then consideration will be given to your application. In this instance, you will need to complete a 1000-word essay, as above.

In addition to the above you will be required to meet the usual Police Officer eligibility criteria (follow link: https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/jobs-volunteer/police-officers/police-officers/selection-process).
We are looking for the very best people – good all-round communicators with a calm and confident personality; problem solvers, team players and people who easily build relationships, respect other people and appreciate views from different communities.

If this sounds like you, we would welcome your application.

There is no restriction on you applying for this opportunity if you already have a degree (providing it is in a subject other than Policing); however, you may wish to consider whether the 2-year Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) is a more suitable route in to Policing for you. For further information regarding the entry routes please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/jobs-volunteer/police-officers/police-officers/peqf-frequently-asked-questions.
Please be aware that West Yorkshire Police are unable to support applicants switching between the PCDA and the DHEP, once an appointment has been made.
Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last three years. In these instances, applicants may be refused, where it has not been possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.
