Help Desk Officer
Operational Support

Job type: shift and non-shift positions – both full-time and job-share available.

Location: various across West Yorkshire.

Current vacancies available: Huddersfield (shifts) and Stainbeck (non-shift). Additional vacancies anticipated in the future. A succession/holding pool list will be held.

West Yorkshire Police is looking to recruit for its public Help Desks. Sound communication ability and a real commitment to delivering excellent customer service are essential attributes for the role.

The Role

Based on the front counter at police stations, this role is the interface between West Yorkshire Police and the customer – the general public in dealing with enquiries. Essentially, you will receive, evaluate, and record enquiries in person, via telephone, via e-mail, or through electronic systems. You will provide guidance and support to customers to ensure that matters are dealt with or appropriately directed. Enquiries may entail dealing with victims reporting criminal offences, road traffic collisions, or assisting partner agencies and visitors to the police station. No two days, or enquiries, will ever be alike!

• The ability to use computers - training will be provided on specific applications/systems.
• Previous experience of working in a customer-focused role.
• A drive for providing excellent customer service.
• The ability to communicate clearly and, in particular, to deal with challenging customers with empathy.
• Resilience - to deal with distressed victims and extremely sensitive issues.
