West Yorkshire Police are looking to appoint two Senior Crime Scene Investigators to join the Regional Scientific Support Services.

Regional Scientific Support Services forms part of West Yorkshire Police and supplies Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) services to the Yorkshire and Humber police forces. Crime Scene Investigators are locally based within the communities they serve. An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Humberside area where we are looking to recruit two Senior Crime Scene Investigators. We are looking for candidates that are experienced Crime Scene Investigators showing potential to progress to the role of Senior Crime Scene Investigators or existing qualified Senior Crime Scene Investigators.

This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who are wishing to progress their career within the Crime Scene Investigation profession. As such, we are seeking highly motivated individuals with an investigative mindset who can demonstrate competence and performance in attending and conducting crime scene examinations in accordance with national occupational standards; as well as knowledge of the practical techniques used to examine more serious and major crime scenes. Candidates will be capable of learning quickly, have good communication skills and be able to deal with the effects of crime ranging from dealing appropriately with distressed victims, through to the impact on individuals at scenes of extreme violence.

In addition, you must hold a full current UK/European driving license and have a flexible, positive attitude to borderless working to ensure a full regional crime scene investigation service. You will also be required to complete a recognised manual handling course.

Training and Development
Senior Crime Scene Investigators in the region are trained to high national standards, working to strict regulations and procedures. If not already qualified as a Senior Crime Scene Investigator, successful candidates will attend the College of Policing Crime Scene Investigation Stage 2 course delivered locally over 3 weeks on full time hours. On successful completion of the Stage 2 training course and appropriate mentorship you will work independently attending all types of crime scenes including serious and major crime, recovering forensic evidence in support of criminal investigations.

Remuneration and work pattern
You will be expected to work in a 7 day, 24 hour rotating shift pattern, including on call and working two weekends out of three. You will be paid monthly which includes an additional 14% shift allowance plus a weekend working allowance, which enhances overall pay to between £34,000 and £40,000. plus overtime payments. You will be entitled to a generous annual leave allowance, which increases with service and you will be automatically enrolled into the local government pension scheme.

Following the recruitment process a holding pool of suitable candidates will be considered should future Senior CSI vacancies arise in at Brigg or Hull, over the next 12 months.

For roles which are advertised as Career Progression Schemes, individuals will be appointed to the bottom scale point of the appropriate grade within the scheme, based on the role entry requirements. Full progression through the scheme may be subject to attaining a specific qualification or successfully passing an assessment or review.
