West Yorkshire Police offers a progressive learning experience over 16 weeks where you will be equipped with the right knowledge and skills, before seeing them transform into the ability to help the public. You can expect to earn over £28, 500 in your first year of employment (based on full time shift working) with the highest pay point being £33833.57 in total (pro-rata if part-time). and opportunities to earn more in different linked roles. Earn and learn is our way of helping you to obtain academic qualifications while earning a full-time salary. During your working week you will be given time to complete the Emergency Service Contact Handling (Level 3 qualification) (equivalent to an A level) which is a nationally recognised qualification and the minimum academic qualification needed to join the police under the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship programme. This police staff role is an excellent way in which to learn about policing and develop a career in the Contact Centre of build upon the experience gained to develop a career in other police staff roles or as a police officer. Due to the level of training involved in this role we require colleagues to complete a two-year tenure period before moving on to other roles or positions in West Yorkshire Police.

To apply for this role, you will need to complete the application and vetting forms, be able to type at a rate of 28 words per minute and have pass grades in both English and Maths at Level 2/GCSE grades 9-4/A*-C (or you will complete the functional skills qualification during your training).


Our training consists of 8 weeks in a classroom environment and then 8 weeks in a development hub working a shift pattern of days and lates. We can assess job share, part time and flexible working patterns at the point of application.
